Whether your child is marvelous at math or adores insects, NCCDI cultivates their learning in ways that are right for them.
NCCDI Preschool Programs
NCCDI offers a wide range of preschool and childcare options for families that include Head Start and the NCCDI Educare State Preschool Programs. NCCDI contracts with both the Federal Administration on Children and Families and the California Department of Education, Child Development Division in order to serve all families through full and part day programs. Our full day programs allow families who are working, going to school or seeking employment to benefit from year round services. Our schools also provide children with state of the art learning environments enriched with innovative materials and equipment. All our preschool programs served children aged 3 and 4 years and are fully inclusive of children with disabilities or special needs.
The NCCDI Early Care and Education Philosophy
The philosophy behind all of our programs is based on connecting the science of child development with practice in early childhood settings. Our program practices are informed of the work of leading human development and early education research. In our centers we utilize the High Scope approach and the Second Step Social and Emotional development curriculum. We believe that children should be actively involved in their own learning. They "learn by doing", often working with hands on materials and carrying out projects of their own choosing. Our approach encompasses all aspects of child development and involves teachers and parents in supporting and extending children's social, emotional, intellectual, physical skills and abilities. This means that learning is not a process of adults giving information to children, but a process in which children discover, explore and create through direct experience with people, objects, events and ideas.

Strong social and emotional development underlies all later social, emotional, and academic success. Young children can not learn if they do not feel a sense of safety, importance, and belonging. Our programs provide a nurturing climate, organized and beautiful environments and stable and consistent routines that allow children to fully reach their potential. Our school readiness goals for children are:
Children are personally and socially competent.
Children are effective learners.
Children show physical and motor competencies.
Children are safe and healthy.
Families support their children's learning and development.
Families achieve their goals.
NAEYC Accredited Programs
To earn NAEYC Accreditation, NCCDI went through an extensive Self-Study process, measuring the program and its services against the 10 NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and more than 400 related Accreditation Criteria. The program received NAEYC Accreditation after a site visit by NAEYC Assessors to ensure that the program meets each of the ten program standards. NAEYC-accredited programs are also subject to unannounced visits during their accreditation, which lasts for five years.
In the 23 years since NAEYC Accreditation was established, it has become a widely recognized sign of high-quality early childhood education. Almost 8,000 programs, serving one million young children, are currently accredited by NAEYC approximately 8 percent of all preschools and other early childhood programs. The NAEYC Accreditation system raises the bar for preschools, child care centers and other early childhood programs, said Mark Ginsberg, Ph.D., executive director of NAEYC. NCCDI's NAEYC Accreditation is a sign that they are a leader in a national effort to invest in high-quality early childhood education, and to help give all children a better start.
The NAEYC Accreditation system has set voluntary professional standards for programs for young children since 1985. In September 2006, the Association revised program standards and criteria to introduce a new level of quality, accountability, and service for parents and children in child care programs. The new standards today reflect the latest research and best practices in early childhood education and development. NAEYC is committed to utilizing the newest studies and analysis on positive child outcomes to ensure young children continue receiving the highest-quality care and education possible.
