Tehama County Child Abuse Prevention Council

NCCDI is the new fiscal agent for the Tehama County Child Abuse Prevention Council!

The Period of PURPLE Crying

Tehama County CAPC is kicking off our PURPLE Crying Project on April 1st, just in time for Child Abuse Prevention Month. This project, which is in partnership with St. Elizabeth's Hospital, will educate new parents on the period of an infant's life, between 2 weeks and 4 months, where they may cry incessantly. For many parents, over-tired and overwhelmed with new parenthood, this can be a very stressful and frustrating time. The PURPLE Crying project gives materials to new parents, explaining this phenomenon, and directs them to our Facebook page to watch a video about PURPLE crying.

Once they watch the video, the parents take a short survey, and are entered into a prize drawing for a $20 Walmart gift card. This opportunity is only available to new parents within 2 months of their baby's birth, and one gift card winner will be chosen each month.

In addition, to further celebrate Child Abuse Prevention Month, the first and last babies born at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in April will receive a gift basket of goodies!

Mandated Reporter Training

We offer Child Abuse Reporter training for community members, businesses and agencies. These workshops cover the history of child abuse reporting in the United States, categories of mandatory reporters, examples of abuse, and reporting procedures. Click above for more details on upcoming training opportunities.

Community Outreach

Council members participate in a variety of community events throughout the year. We are usually present at the NCCDI Parent's Choice Conference, Latino Outreach's Binational Health Fair, and the Tehama County Health Foundation Children's Fair. We plan to participate in the Corning and Red Bluff Christmas Parades as well as the Round Up Parade. Our passionate council members look forward to any opportunity to connect with our community.

Shaken Baby Information and Training

Through a generous donation from the Exchange Club of Corning, we own a Shaken Baby simulation mannequin. Council members trained in presenting on Shaken Baby Syndrome are available to discuss the topic, with the shaken baby simulator, at your agency or event.

Child Abuse Prevention Month

The month of April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Each April we celebrate with proclamations at the City Councils and Board of Supervisors, with blue ribbon trees and pinwheels. We participate in various community events in April as well, to promote child abuse prevention.

Upcoming Event: Child Abuse Reporter Training

We are available for agency-specific Mandated Reporter training--just call us at 530-529-1500 to set up a training for your workplace. We also do customized or one-on-one shaken baby syndrome training.
